About us
Treble & Bass stems from a passion for vintage clothing and fashion, and from a musical metaphor.
The name indicates the two extreme keys of the sound range, bass and violin, those which embrace the entire range of sounds from the lowest to the highest notes.
But Treble & Bass is also the formula written on the equalization knobs of - among other things - old turntables and vintage gramophones.
A symbol, therefore, an impression of what vintage is for me.
Vintage fashion is in fact a varied universe, a potentially endless and very differentiated extension of concepts and styles.
But at the same time, I believe, it is an organic system, a single, compact range of notes and concepts, each differentiated from the others and yet interconnected to each other and linked by a basic, spatial and chronological continuity.
It is, therefore, a world that is useful to understand as a whole, because an arbitrary division into compartments impoverishes its interpretation.
For those who dedicate themselves to the research and proposal (therefore dissemination) of vintage fashion, not considering even just one of the key areas of this varied sector is a shame and a loss.
It's not possible to talk about streetwear or workwear without having a clear understanding of what classic elegance and tailoring are, how to wear a men's suit and a tie.
It is reductive to deal with modern second hand luxury without knowing what a Levi's big E is.
It's limiting to deal with vintage handmade tailoring without also researching the concept of designer brand, and knowing the cultural value and stylistic meaning of the signature and the contemporary lines of the best luxury maisons.
It's certainly not a question of avoiding in-depth analysis and specialization in individual particular areas (at a certain point inevitable), but of always maintaining as broad a view as possible, and a look at the whole.
What will you find here, then? In a word, a little of everything.
Men's and Women's fashion; items (many!) of classic gentlemen style, but also workwear and streetwear; some authentic 40s to 90s vintage garments, but also a lot of contemporary second hand from major brands.
You will find, for example, a modern Brioni three-piece suit next to an 80s Jordan Playground streetwear t-shirt; a women's tailored coat from the 70s next to a monogram Gucci bag from the latest collections; a 90s Levi's 501 jeans paired with classic double-pleated tailored trousers.
All this without neglecting, of course, the in-depth analysis of individual areas and particular themes that are most congenial to me. But with an eye always on the whole, and particular attention to the cultural aspect of vintage, and the story that each garment tells.
The person behind the whole business is me: Filippo, born 1995, based in Bologna (Italy).
Coming from a couple of years of passion and experience in the world of research and sale of vintage fashion, I've always had a strong propensity for organicity and historical analysis, which I tend to apply to every area of my interest: therefore, also to this.
Here and on the other media I'll try to bring both aspects together, in a union that I believe can be fruitful: research and sale of timeless items, but also a few words and reflections on the world from which they come.
Beyond to the sale, there will also be an opportunity to talk about and discuss vintage, fashion and style from a critical and historical perspective, in the blog section of the site and on social channels.
I personally follow both selections (Men's and Women's), and you can also find me as a pro-seller on Vestiaire Collective (where I have the badge of expert seller).
If you've made it this far, thank you, and happy shopping!
Filippo
